PROJECT: BRAND FILM // CLIENT: SONY ENTERTAINMENT NETWORK
Watch the Video
We have spent the past few months conceiving, producing and directing a huge viral brand film for Sony Entertainment Network. The project is another exciting collaboration with our good friends over at Studio Output who gave us the challenge to create a film that both celebrates "ultimate entertainment" and also showcases a host of Sony's hottest products and the services that the Sony Entertainment Network offers.
The project was a really ambitious one with an extensive pre-production period in order to put on a live event over two jam-packed shoot days and two locations involving a massive cast and crew including set designers, illustrators and graffiti artists, as well as a body popper, a live band performance, a light sculpture, a room full of TVs, a massive warehouse cinema and, last but by no means least, the most insane driving simulator you've ever seen!
The post production was completed almost entirely in-house except for some very nifty visual effects by the über-talented Analog Studio and the grade which was handled once again by James Tillett up at MPC.

PROJECT: BRAND FILM// CLIENT: STUDIO OUTPUT
Studio Output approached us to make a brand film for the launch of the London Stock Exchange's new ticker plant. We wanted to make something cinematic from what was quite a corporate brief. Who said finance can't be fun.

PROJECT: NEW TECH // CLIENT: McLAREN
In another collaborative project with MarshmallowLaserFeast, and James Medcraft, we produced a stunning film for the launch of McLaren's P12 super car.
The goal for the project was to show the P12’s aerodynamic qualities in a whole new light, without actually having physical access to the car itself. Light painting has been around for decades but has never been put into full motion. Until now.
Working with McLaren we were able to process their wind tunnel airflow data and score out paths for individual trails of light. Each frame was then sliced into 650 frames that represent depths of 3D space and a plasma screen, mounted on a motion control rig, was used as a 3D light printer to play back the 650 slices as it moved through the space. We then repeated the move a thousand times for each frame of the animation and with each frame the camera, mounted on another motion control rig, moved a few millimeters so that over the course of the shoot we were able to create the effect of a moving camera.
The finished film merges photography, animation and sculpture and is a truly unique way of representing aerodynamics that we feel justly celebrates this astonishing car.
You can see more of this sort of incredible work at www.marshmallowlaserfeast.com.

PROJECT: BRAND FILM // CLIENT: JACK MORTON
Jack Morton commissioned us to produce a brand film on behalf of Sony for the '2012 Mobile World Congress' in Barcelona.
We spent four weeks working closely with Sony to conceive and then animate a two minute film to launch Sony's new Xperia Series of handsets.
As well as the opener, we were also responsible for all the screen content during the whole presentation as well, all of which needed to be rendered at an incredible resolution in order to hold up on a 15m wide back projection screen.
The event was a huge success with over 700 of the world's press in attendance.

PROJECT: PROJECTION MAPPING // CLIENT: SONY ENTERTAINMENT NETWORK
Making of
We are very proud to bring to you a whole new batch of projection-mapping videos as part of our collaboration on the ongoing Marshmallow Laser Feast projects.
This time it was a project for Studio Output and their client Sony Playstation.
We wanted to push video mapping on from anything that has been done so far. Using live puppetry, 3D tracking, pyrotechnics (and a whole bunch of our friends' spare time) we transformed a room into three different vignettes. Can you guess the films?!
It was all lots of fun! A very big thank you to all our friends and Studio-Output for their support and putting their trust into our maverick efforts!

PROJECT: BRAND FILM // CLIENT: MOTHER
A brand film for Mother. Produced by Joyrider.
It was a quick turn around project for The General Assembly NYC, we had to shoot a conversation with Sir Paul Smith and animate his thoughts around him.

PROJECT: PROJECTION MAPPING // CLIENT: VODAFONE
Shot in a single take, popular mobile handsets were spray-painted white and brought to life with 3D projection mapping techniques that appear like a hologram on a flat plinth surface.
The 3D effect was enhanced by a roving "sweet spot" that had to be matched precisely by the camera for the illusion to work.
We got all our favourite people in on the act and spent a month experimenting and discovering just how far we could push the illusion. Good fun!
Thanks to Sandra for documenting the whole merry shindig. (www.meorme.com)

PROJECT: BRAND FILM // CLIENT: ONE
A traditional approach was required for this brand film for the ONE campaign. Based on a real life account from a ONE campaign member, we produced, directed, illustrated and animated everything in-house in just three short weeks.

PROJECT: SONY 2008 IFA // CLIENT: D-FUSE
The ‘Bravia’ was the world’s first 200Hz LCD TV and boasts the ‘smoothest picture ever’.
The film was shot using a ‘MotionPro Y-5’ hi-speed camera. This gave us 500fps at twice HD resolution, enabling us to ramp the speed from normal to super slow motion, so as to articulate the sense of increased smoothness.
